Personnel who prepare, sign, or handle outbound hazardous materials shipments from Andean must complete DOT hazmat training before offering any hazmat for transport. This module points you at the external course, walks you through the four steps, and lets you upload your certificate to complete your training record. Renewed every three years.
49 CFR 172.704 requires all "hazmat employees" to complete general awareness, function-specific, safety, and security awareness training within 90 days of first assignment, and every three years thereafter.
Andean's shipments include Class 8 (corrosive), Class 9 (miscellaneous — lithium batteries, environmentally hazardous), Class 6.1 (toxic — lead/cadmium concentrates), and UN3480 / UN3481 (lithium ion batteries — special provisions). All are shipped highway-only under 49 CFR.
Completion is required for anyone who prepares shipping papers, signs manifests, arranges segregation of incompatible loads, or otherwise takes part in offering hazmat for transport.
Video · reading · knowledge check (quiz) · downloadable completion certificate. Covers 49 CFR 172.700–704 general awareness, function-specific, safety, and security awareness.
